What is the difference between an acquaintance and a friend? It has little to do with whether you've ever been in their home, had a beer with them or just happen to have met them in the queue at Aldi.
I met some people in the queue at Aldi yesterday, and while we didn't go into the meaning of life, we exchanged views about what is a good pot of heather and how queues at Aldi are an opportunity to exchange with other human beings, and not an impingement on our schedules. Not friends, but getting there. Next time, I'll ask their names.
An acquaintance is someone who you go off and research everything you want to know about something and then come back and tell them how it is. That's an acquaintance.
A friend is someone who you talk to about something that neither of you knows everything about and, through talking, each of you gets to know that bit more about the subject.
Acquaintance is a presentation; friendship is a research project.
Some of you here are acquaintances; and some of you are friends.
