It is a sobering fact that, in the location where James Bond saw his eighth Broccoli iteration, in the form of Roger Moore in the film Live and Let Die (1973), tented resources have recently been deployed to “accommodate” persons detained by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement authority, in the self-same mosquito-, alligator- and snake-infested swamplands as are depicted in the movie. When asked about the dangers that such an environment could pose to detainees, the American President replied that he couldn’t care less.
How appropriate, then, the name of that film: (We) live and let (others) die. Whether the lyric is be understood as a criticism of the viewpoint assumed by US government policy, or as an invocation against that government is something I cannot comment upon.
Live and Let Die
Written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney
Performed by Wings
From their 1973 album Live and Let Die
Enjoyed the soundtrack, thanks Graham. I never was fond of James Bond after Sean Connery.
