When proofreading a piece, I do occasionally read it aloud for rhythm and pace. There are points where this tended towards becoming a rant. People don't like being ranted to, but I felt it stopped short of losing control. In the end, how much do people living under oppression have to put up with before they're allowed to lose control? There is a place in Kenya called Kukuma Refugee Camp. Segregated there are 800 Queers, who fled to Kenya to escape persecution for their sexuality at home: Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and others. But in Kenya they are likewise oppressed. They cannot get work, they cannot trade, they cannot live, they're in a suspension of life, and they are ridiculed, beaten, women are raped to prove to them that lesbianism is a fallacy. A woman was burned yesterday after being raped in the camp. Today, she was buried. I'm fact gathering to write on it, but I put this up from the summer in the meantime. It's utterly scandalous, but UNHCR will not intervene, out of respect for Kenya's anti-gay laws. Excuse me? Perverse laws command respect; meanwhile a woman is dead and 800 remain in the lurch. That's worth a rant.

Reads like a manifesto. If you were to read it aloud, would it be an angry piece?
