Tailor: tinker and soldier, but this launch is no sailer
Aren't Ms Truss and Mr Kwarteng a right pair?
My namesake George Canning holds the record for the shortest tenure as a prime minister of the United Kingdom, at 119 days (call it 4 months). If you check out the list on Wikipedia, you can see that Liz Truss already figures there, albeit down at the bottom with her modest start of 27 days.
At the moment, one does wonder how far up the list she is likely to attain over the full course of her tenure. At the present time, beating George Canning’s paltry 4 months would already appear to pose a gargantuan challenge; let alone attaining the heady heights of Horace Walpole at a kick in the arse off 21 years all told. Wouldn’t it be an odd quirk of fate if the UK’s longest ever monarchical reign were to have crossed by 3 days the shortest ever tenure of 10 Downing Street?
They do say “never mind the width, feel the quality” in the world of tailoring. Mind you, some fashion items of passing fancy lack both width and quality and, in the end, you do have to “cut your coat according to your cloth”, and Ms Truss is hardly best worsted. Better just to make a bikini. Ms Truss and Mr Kwarteng would be an ideally suited pair for the upper portion of the combination.
