Tuesday’s Child Is Full of Grace. Part 10.
IN-LAWS AND ILLNESS. By May Vincent. Additional remarks by Graham Vincent
How we left things last time:
Having a son it was not unnatural for me to wish for a daughter and I did - right up to my Dad’s death and then I took to wishing with all my heart for a boy to bear his name, so I got what I wanted.

When our invitation to Bill’s & Peggy’s Wedding came in there seemed no easy way of me getting down, with Ron, to Bristol. I realised that a young baby’s demands coupled with an active 2 1/2-year-old was too much to expect my 70-year-old Mum to cope with. I feel sure either Nancy or Bette were willing to do their best, but neither had experience and so I approached Harry and Sadie—firstly speaking to Harry on my phone call. The wedding was to take place on Easter Saturday so, being a Holiday week-end I put it to them that they could perhaps come out to Clarkston and Harry try to keep Douglas amused while Sadie cared for Baby Brian. Harry was most agreeable but when he put Sadie on her immediate remark put me off “I wonder you would trust me with your children”. I would hardly have asked her if I didn’t trust her, but after muttering “We shall see and I’ll get back to you about it”—I never did and so, probably caused slight to Bill and Peggy, preferring to “lie upon the bed I’d made for myself” and shoulder my own responsibilities.
