How we left things last week:

Once installed Nancy enquired “Where to?”—and suddenly while rummaging my handbag for a cigarette I triumphantly withdrew “Taffy’s” map. If nothing else it provided a “goal” and soon [we] were winding along typically Cornish lanes enclosed within high hedges on either side, well into the countryside. Not one of us had an ounce of faith in its authenticity and as dusk gave way to darkness our headlights discerned a break in the hedgerows with promise of a gateway in which to turn the car. As the car nosed into the space our headlamps clearly revealed an R.A.F. sentry pacing back & forth on guard, before the entrance to R.A.F. Station, St. Mawgan.

“Taffy” had not lied after all.
