Good for you Graham. Some Canadians are already taking all American alocoholic beverages off their shelves. Hooray for them. Although I haven't been a Canadian for 58 years I'm proud of them. I hope more Europeans adopt your attitude. My Country, the United States, needs to be humbled. 77 million registered voters voted for trump, 75 million of us (including me) voted for Harris/Walz. BUT 90 million didn't bother to vote at all, shame on them, they handed the keys to the American government to two overwhelming narcissists - musk and trump.
In three weeks they have managed to hand the keys to the treasury to musk and minions, fire the Inspector Generals from all departments (their job was to route out corruption, theft, and waste) DESTROY USAID leaving all our humanitarian aid Owed to the rest of the Homo sapiens on Earth. If we do not intervene now we will soon be a worthless medieval nation of a handful (like less than 1000 useless billionaires) and 345,000,000 starving peasants laboring to serve and support those "needy" billionaires.
Thanks for your encouraging words - yes I had seen pictures of "American Whiskey" - and "Canadian is also available". And Scotch, of course.
I didn't exaggerate recently (the piece on Shostakovich) when I said Trump's first week was exhausting. It was, I'm sure you felt it too. That is the idea. The outrage will be outdone by more outrage. I cannot fathom the reports I'm reading into the little lads (pictured in The Byte in short trousers) who have access to all your social security information. Fancy. And they barely have graduated from high school. And the guy who hired those who've been turfed out wants them back, unashamedly.
So, do I buy a Chris Hedges book and support the US economy? Or do I assume I know what it says (which I certainly don't) and keep my money in Europe? There is a strange conundrum here: even last year, Americans were telling a Hungarian friend of mine who was in LA that they wanted to leave for Europe. I reckon they think that, in four years, Trump will be gone and they can go back. And in the Gaza Strip, the Israelis are encouraging the Palestinians to leave and go to Jordan and Egypt, and they won't because once they leave they know they'll never be allowed back. So, do you think that Americans would be so keen to clear off to Europe if they knew they could never, ever return, and that they'd be leaving the States free and clear for the Nazis to do whatever they want? Like the Jews tried to do in Germany?
The Palestinians won't. They won't go. It is their birth-right, not a land that was occupied or stolen. It is theirs and they will die there before they will be evicted. And for that, they will be called terrorists. By Nazis.
The reports you are reading are not accurate. A lot of writers seemed more outraged at the age of musk' s minions than with what they were doing. They appear to range in age from19 to 36, BUT my experience from working with younger people is that some are way more capable programmers and developers than us older fuddy duddys I did work with implementing new computer programs for Social Services programs in my last 18 years of employment (I was 88 at retirement) But I relied heavily on the very much younger developers and programmer's when writing my recommendations for necessary fixes.
The Real culprits here are Musk, Trump, Bessent and trump's other enablers who gave full administrative access to the Federal Treasury Payment system. Musk was never elected, vetted, appointed, confirmed, or given security clearances. No matter how much musk claims to be a genius - he's NOT. My middle daughter was tested at 10 years old in fifth grade and had an IQ of 168 (Musk claims 155, I and my youngest daughter tested at 138) And yes I know IQ tests have been dropped because they favor light skinned middle and upperclass people but they are still convenient. I doubt trump would even test out at 100.
Anyway, back on topic, Musk then instructe4d the Treasury employees to give his 'team' full access and assist them wherever they needed help. Now, I don't know the absolute truth of this,. but several people have reported that one, Marko Elez, changed the programming to allow elon musk to block any and all payments with which he disagrees.
Our Consititution gives the Loer House - meaning the House of Representatives, frequently referred to as Congress persons, the ONLY power of the purse, meaning all budgeted money must originate in that chamber. The Senate oversees all money bills,. the President is given the right of veto, but once signed into law the President has the duty of putting said action into usage. Nowhere in the Constitution is the President given the right to refuse to pay bills or change the amount of payment legislated. So you can see why we are so incensed over musk being able to do whatever the hell he wants with OUR tax dollars
