Confirmation bias is slapped down as being a negative attribute, and anything that is "universally condemned" always gives me pause for thought: why?

Confirmation bias is universally condemned, in my view, because it is, or despite its being, universal. It is a prevalent attribute among those who have never heard of the term; and it is equally as prevalent among those who invented the term and apply it to others.

A large part of confirmation bias is the ability to step back from one's own situation and assess in how far one is wrong in the view that one holds. Confirmation bias is - I would venture - manifested by every last individual on this Earth who believes that he or she has divined the truth (i.e. everyone). But it is used by every last one of those individuals to describe every last individual on this Earth who has divined a truth that is different from their own.
