I'm sure I've seen its like, if not this itself. I'll see if funds stretch. There's always my birthday party in September. My angle of attack here is far more the modern attitudes to time-keeping. We measure it in order to be ruled by it. The science of horology becomes the crass means to crack a whip.

The film Gone With The Wind opens with a scene of a cotton field, with slaves at work. One of them reaches up with a metal rod and rings out on a hanging metal triangle "Quittin' time! Quittin' time!"

Big Sam is indignant: "I's the foreman! I says when it's quittin' time!" Whereupon the ringing recommences. This time it is Big Sam who cries out, "Quittin' time! Quittin' time!"

You think that's maybe funny?

Neither man wears a timepiece. That's funny, I'll grant. But if either had got it wrong, it would have been no metal triangle that was hung to announce their quitting time.
